Hybrid Personal Training

What Is Hybrid Personal Training?

Hybrid personal training blends the best of both worlds: in-person training and online coaching. It gives clients 24/7 support and accountability, and it gives coaches more autonomy, scalability, and profit.

Our "Floor to Phone" system introduces online elements to an in-person business. This might include automating onboarding, remote check-ins, daily habit tracking, or adding digital content to support clients between sessions.

In our tests, it didn’t just help. It transformed client retention, margins, and lifetime value.

My Journey: From Studio Owner to Hybrid Specialist

My background is in coaching, not tech (despite what people think!). I owned a successful studio and ran small group PT sessions. But like many, we were overworked. Onboarding was slow, support between sessions was inconsistent, and margins were tight.

We started layering in tech to solve admin issues. First it was automating onboarding. Then we added check-ins, daily touch points, and group-based accountability. Before long, we had a hybrid model that gave us:

  • Group pricing
  • One-to-one results
  • Better time autonomy

Eventually, I took my business fully online, discovered PT Distinction, and started helping others build their systems. That turned into PTD Ninja: a company that now supports thousands of trainers with online setup, automations, and client delivery systems.

Why Hybrid Training Matters Now

The market is shifting. Fast. AI is revolutionising fitness delivery. Apps can deliver training plans, track macros, and give instant feedback. And they’re often free or extremely low-cost.

But here's the key:
AI delivers plans. Humans deliver change.

You can’t beat AI on price or speed. But you can beat it on empathy, nuance, connection, and the human accountability that gets real results.

If you stay stuck in the old model — where support ends at the studio door — you risk being left behind.

Common Studio Challenges (and Hybrid Solutions)

Problem 1: Revenue limited by physical hours

Solution: Online content, automations, and remote coaching free up time

Problem 2: Retention sits at 7–9 months (UKActive average)

Solution: Our hybrid gyms averaged 12+ months retention after implementation

Problem 3: Admin eats margins

Solution: Automation of onboarding, check-ins, follow-ups, and nutrition freed up 1hr+ per client/month
